Dr. Kübra Zeynep Sarıaslan is visiting fellow in Contemporary Turkish Studies, European Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Her research project entitled “Journalism at a Distance: Transnational Politics and Making Online News in Exile” deals with reconfigurations of media, migration, digital cultures, and transnational politics and supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
She was previously visiting researcher in the Centre for Modern Oriental Studies (Zentrum für Moderner Orient) in Berlin between 2018 and 2020 and worked as a lecturer at the University of Bern Institute of Social Anthropology between 2016 and 2018. She received her Ph.D. in 2018 from the University of Zurich Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology with a dissertation on practices of empowerment, global discourses on women’s human rights, and development in southeast Turkey. She studied sociology and social anthropology at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara. During this time, she engaged in various research on religious syncretism, rural Europe, and othering near the Turkish-Armenian border.
