COVID Notes:

All exam candidates need to follow the COVID safety measures implemented by LSE, including have a negative test result on the day, wearing a face mask during the whole exam period, etc. Failure to do so will result in NO entry to the exam and NO exam fee will be refunded. Should COVID situation gets worse, or cases rise sharply, we reserve the right to cancel the exam, and put you in the next available exam. 

HSK/HSKK summary

The Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is an official examination designed to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native Chinese speakers from beginners (level 1) to advanced (level 6). It is an internationally recognised standard in assessing your Chinese language level and the results can be used to demonstrate Chinese ability to an employer and to apply for Confucius Institute Scholarships (CIS). It is also accepted by universities in China as a proof of Chinese proficiency. The HSK tests include writing, listening and reading skills.

The Hanyu Shuiping Kouyu Kaoshi (HSKK) is an oral exam that focuses on spoken capability. The HSKK is divided into three different levels: Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Please note: Our centre ONLY provides paper-based HSK.

Examination details

You will need to bring your HSK permit and photographic ID (passport, drivers licence etc.) with you when come to sit the HSK test. You will also need pencils and an eraser for the test. No dictionaries or other written materials are allowed in the room where the test takes place. Note that the test paper will be in Simplified Character format, unless otherwise requested upon application.

Make the payment

  • After the registration, please follow this link to the LSE e-shop to pay. 

  • In the amount section please MANUALLY enter the exam fee.

  • Follow the rest of the online instructions to complete the process.

Successful registration

You will be issued with an HSK permit and directions to the test centre after the deadline for registration & payment.

Important information

Postpone your exam

Applications to postpone HSK examinations must be made no later than 10 days before the date of the examination. An additional administration fee of £15 will be charged to register for the new examination date. Applications to postpone the examination made less than 10 days before the examination cannot be accepted and there is no refund.

Cancel your exam

If you would like to cancel your HSK exam after the application deadline, a fee will be charged.  Your request should be made either via logging on to the Chinese Test Official webpage or by contacting the Test Centre.  If your request is made at least 10 days prior to your HSK exam date, you will receive a 50% refund. However, any request made within the 10 days (inclusive) prior to your HSK test is not entitled for refund. Please note the £15 registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Examination results

For HSK test result, please visit www.chinesetest.cn 30 days after your test.  Please note your admission ticket number will be needed for checking the result. Certificates will be sent to CIBL 2 months after the date of the examination.
