How can a country leverage international cooperation to achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), all in the service of inclusive economic growth and its citizens’ welfare?
As part of the LSE series Policy Reform in the Making, economist and Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Mashat will discuss a novel approach of economic diplomacy that puts at its centre a country-led multi-stakeholder engagement framework. Notably incorporating government, civil society groups and the private sector in this framework, her new book Stakeholder Engagement through Economic Diplomacy highlights three key principles and presents Egypt’s experience in fostering multilateralism.
This high-profile event will outline the steps to a multi-stakeholder approach. First, create a country-led multi-stakeholder platform to enable and facilitate a constructive, inclusive and transparent dialogue with all partners supporting socio-economic objectives. Second, design and implement a mapping exercise to align the results of international development cooperation projects in the country with the objectives of the SDGs. Third, employ a global partnerships narrative, which offers a common language of communication for stakeholders to unify development efforts between the country and its development partners.

The book highlights how successful implementation of these principles can produce powerful synergies, offering a strong basis for future interventions and decisions on fund allocation towards fulfilling the 2030 Agenda.
