CIVICA Research Conference for PhD and post-doctoral researchers

PhD and post-doctoral researchers at CIVICA universities (Bocconi, CEU, EUI, Hertie, Sciences Po, SNSPA, SSE, LSE) are invited to submit a poster to exhibit at the CIVICA Research Conference, taking place at Central European University on 1-2 September 2022 in Budapest (Hungary).
The aim of the initiative is to showcase some of the latest research in the social sciences, and to build the nodes of future cooperation between CIVICA's research teams and networks.
The call at a glance:
- The posters should highlight research results of current projects. Individual PhD and (post)doctoral researchers are eligible to apply. One author per project of the selected posters will be invited to attend the conference in Budapest – travel costs and accommodation are covered by their home institutions.
- The posters should be related but not limited to CIVICA’s four research themes. Applications from disciplines in the humanities, and/or posters from the fields of economics and political economy are strongly encouraged.
- A maximum of two projects from each of the eight CIVICA universities will be selected.The decision will be based on academic excellence and made by the sending university.
- Interested PhD and post-doctoral researchers must submit an abstract and a draft poster. Abstracts cannot exceed one-page in length in single spacing formatting, and they must be submitted in PDF format.
- The deadline for submission of abstracts and poster drafts/mock-up is 30 June 2022, 12pm (CEST).
- The call is financed from CIVICA’s Erasmus+ funds and partners’ own resources.

This event is open to researchers, students and interested individuals, based at CIVICA partner institutions and beyond. The first part will feature a keynote speech and a panel discussion with relevant experts in the field of democracy measurement, before the opportunity is given to participants to present their proposals concerning how the existing indicators should be improved, combined or replaced. Call for research proposals from faculty and postdoctoral researchers
Faculty and (post-doctoral) researchers in CIVICA universities (Bocconi University, CEU, EUI, Hertie, LSE, Sciences Po, SNSPA, SSE) are invited to submit proposals for seed funding to apply to larger grants. Data Science Summer School

Call for event moderators
The European University Institute is organising the Tour d’Europe Public Lecture "Non solo Erasmus - facciamoci sentire in Europa" on Wednesday 26 May 2021. they are looking for three early career researchers from any CIVICA member university to act as moderators on the following topics:
- Youth environmental activism (In English)
- Gender violence online (In Italian)
- Youth participation in the EU (In Italian).

Call for Assistant Editors
The Revdem (Review of Democracy), a new online journal initiated by CEU’s Democracy Institute, has put out a call for Assistant Editors, to begin on 1 May 2021. Five places are available to CIVICA PhDs as part of an unpaid internship and mentoring scheme. The goal of the programme is to teach the students the following skills:
- Op-eds writing
- Text editing
- Conducting interviews
- Trainees will have the opportunity to familiarise with the area of broadly understood studies of democracy in Europe and beyond.
