Data Science Summer School

The Data Science Summer School is a series of one-day workshops with hands-on labs on data science methods and applications currently employed by industry, government, and civil society to address the world's most complex challenges.

Organised by the Hertie School Data Science Lab from July 9 to 30, the Data Science Summer School is open to all researchers, faculty, students and administrative team members from across CIVICA.

All courses are online and free, fully sponsored by the generous support of the SCRIPTS Cluster of Excellence and Stifterverband!

Focusing on the challenges and opportunities of the European digital governance and the construction of advanced digital skills in the economy and society.

The George Soros Visiting Chair at CEU

We welcome nominations and applications for the 2021/2022 academic year. Awarded to scholars or practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding achievement or a distinguished record of participation in the academic, professional, journalistic, political, or civic world of public policy, The George Soros Visiting Chair was established with generous contributions from the friends and family of George Soros, founder of Central European University, and Honorary Chairman of its Board of Trustees. Deadline: 14 June 2021. For more information, please visit https://spp.ceu.edu/gs-chair.

Call for event moderators

The European University Institute is organising the Tour d’Europe Public Lecture "Non solo Erasmus - facciamoci sentire in Europa" on Wednesday 26 May 2021. they are looking for three early career researchers from any CIVICA member university to act as moderators on the following topics:

  • Youth environmental activism (In English)
  • Gender violence online (In Italian)
  • Youth participation in the EU (In Italian).

If you have a strong interest and/or expertise in one of the topics and you are at ease with public speaking, email tfe@eui.eu by Friday 23 April. Indicate your preferred topic and attach your CV.  

Call for Assistant Editors

The Revdem (Review of Democracy), a new online journal initiated by CEU’s Democracy Institute, has put out a call for Assistant Editors, to begin on 1 May 2021. Five places are available to CIVICA PhDs as part of an unpaid internship and mentoring scheme. The goal of the programme is to teach the students the following skills:

  • Op-eds writing
  • Text editing
  • Conducting interviews
  • Trainees will have the opportunity to familiarise with the area of broadly understood studies of democracy in Europe and beyond.

CIVICA Summer School - Pandemics and Power: redefining solidarity after COVID-19

This CIVICA Summer School for post-doctoral and early career researchers takes place 12-16 July 2021 in Italy. The deadline to apply is 5pm CET on Thursday 15 April.

EUI Summer School for PhD researchers

The European University Institute Florence invites PhD researchers from CIVICA member universities to apply for a Summer School on "European integration in historical and contemporary perspective" to be held 6-9 September 2021. LSE's Piers Ludlow is among the convenors. The deadline to apply is 28 March 2021. Find out more about the EUI Summer School.

The first CIVICA call for research proposals

Faculty and post-doctoral researchers are invited to submit proposals for new collaborative research projects under one of CIVICA’s four core themes. The aim of the initiative is to encourage innovative research and foster new cooperation between CIVICA’s partner universities. Application deadline: 12pm CET, Tuesday 23 March 2021. Find out how to submit your proposal.

Research funding received from Horizon 2020

We've received funding from the EU programme Horizon 2020, under the chapter "Science with and for Society". The activities funded under this call aim to establish, "CIVICA Research", a joint long-term research and innovation environment. Read the Horizon 2020 statement.
