European Week 2022: sport and social impact

Taking place 20-24 June 2022 in Milan, European Week is open to undergraduate students from from Bocconi, Sciences Po, SSE and LSE. Participants will have the chance to fully grasp the power of sport in fostering and improving social development, inclusion and advancement both at the individual and community level, while understanding the typical dynamics of sports business and management. Find out more

Semi-final and final of the 2022 futurEU competition on 8 April

Join the final on 8 April at 5pm CET and watch the two finalist teams present their visionary EU policies to give power to the future.

Are you wondering how young Europeans envision the future of the EU? Do you think that students should be involved in the debate on the future of the EU? Do you want to know where young people see urgency for EU policy change?

Join the futurEU final online to watch students and PhD researchers from CIVICA partner universities present their visionary proposals for the EU and support your participating peers from LSE. 

After a successful first edition of the futurEU competition, the second edition again prompted students and PhD researchers across CIVICA to participate in a thought experiment about the future of the European Union. 

Experts of the Jacques Delors Centre Berlin have invited the best eight teams to defend their ideas during the finals of the futurEU competition. 

The final will also feature a keynote address from Damian Boeselager, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and co-founder of VOLT Europe.

futurEU is back - enter the competition by 20 December 2021

Founded in 2019 by graduate students of the Hertie School,  futurEU is a student-led initiative seeking to involve young voices in the debates on the EU of tomorrow. 

All students and PhD researchers from CIVICA campuses are invited to engage in a thought experiment about the EU of the future.

The CIVICA Engage Track

Interested in developing your civic engagement skills? LSE undergraduates are invited to apply for the CIVICA Engage Track, where you'll gain civic engagement experience with member institutions and students across Europe. Applications close at midday on Monday 29 November 2021.

What is the CIVICA Engage Track?

  • A European multi-campus, interdisciplinary bachelor experience with a focus on civic engagement.  

  • By combining academic study and social commitment, students explore and respond to value-laden topics like responsibility and sustainability and aim to provide real-world solutions to specific problems. 

  • Students who complete the track are awarded a CIVICA Engage bachelor’s degree track certificate. 


The application form will ask you to express an interest in which components of the Engage Track you'd like to take part in, either the European Week in June 2022 or the exchange stream at one of our partners in 2022/23 (Bocconi, Sciences Po and SSE). 

How can I apply and what happens next?

Find out more details about the components of the CIVICA Engage Trackcourses, and use the LSE application form to apply for your place. Please note that if you intend to take part in European Week you must be available mid-end June 2022 - dates TBC.

More about European Week 2022 

The CIVICA European Week is both a standalone learning event and a central element of the Engage Track. It is hosted by Bocconi University and will take place in June 2022 after the exam period.

Join the European Student Assembly and become part of Europe’s largest student community of universities!

The Assembly’s first session, to be held in Strasbourg in March 2022, will bring together 200-300 student representatives from all 41 European University alliances, including CIVICA. Together, you will discuss current challenges for the EU and make recommendations to European policymakers within Conference on the Future of Europe. Call for Campus Leaders - join the futurEU team!

The futurEU Competition is back for a second edition, and the futurEU Team needs YOU to become a Campus Leader. All current LSE students are eligible so make sure you apply by Friday 22 October 2021.

As an interested individual in European affairs, you will benefit from networking opportunities with stakeholders across Europe, and from soft skills in social media outreach, communications tools and project management.

Data Science Summer School

The Data Science Summer School is a series of one-day workshops with hands-on labs on data science methods and applications currently employed by industry, government, and civil society to address the world's most complex challenges.

Organised by the Hertie School Data Science Lab from July 9 to 30, the Data Science Summer School is open to all researchers, faculty, students and administrative team members from across CIVICA.

All courses are online and free, fully sponsored by the generous support of the SCRIPTS Cluster of Excellence and Stifterverband!

Are you wondering what the future of the EU might look like? Do you think that students should be involved in the debate on the future of the EU? Good luck to Team LSE who will be competing in the semi-finals on Wednesday 14 April! CIVICA Engage Track - information for LSE applicants

LSE's Global Academic Engagement Team will have sent you an email at the start of Summer Term to let you know if you were selected. View the elements of the Engage Track and find out a bit more about each part:

  • The CIVICA European Week is both a stand-alone learning event and a central element of the Engage Track. It is hosted by the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), 8-11 June 2021 on the theme of financial literacy. The next one will be in summer 2022.
  • Engage courses are available at LSE, Bocconi, Sciences Po and SSE. CIVCA Engage courses feature contact with the community beyond the university and practitioners working to solve concrete social problems. 
  • Showcase assignments enable you to share your experience of engaging a social problem through CIVICA’s transnational community, in a special presentation to a target audience.

LSE students and PhDs: join the European Youth Debate

Apply by 3 April 2021 to take your place at the European Youth Debate, online 16-18 April. It will begin with keynote speeches from politicians, academics, and journalists, and followed by two days of collaborative working in round tables each developing one of four themes: Geopolitics, Diplomacy and International Trade; European Recovery and Growth; Health and Research; and Identity, Media and Multilingualism.
