Dr Muhamet Hamiti is the current and the first ambassador of the Republic of Kosova to the UK.

Born in Podujeva in Kosovo in 1964, Ambassador Hamiti earned his BA in English Language and Literature at the University of Pristina in 1987; earned his MA in English Literature at the University of Zagreb (Croatia) in 1990, and his PhD in English literature at the University of Pristina in 2006 with a thesis on the prose fiction of James Joyce and Joseph Conrad. In the 1990s, Dr Hamiti was also an independent scholar at the University of East Anglia and at Birkbeck College of the University of London respectively, pursuing research in the field of literature.

He had a career in academia and the media as well, as Dr Hamiti has been teaching English Literature at the University of Pristina since 1989, and is the author of monograph books on English literature, a range of literary essays, as well as literary translations from and into English. From 1991 through to 1999 he worked at the Kosovo Information Center(KIC) as editor-in-chief for the English service. He edited and translated into English a number of publications that KIC undertook during those years of the Kosovo's struggle for freedom and independence.

Ambassador Hamiti has been a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) since 1990, and a member of LDK's executive body since 2002, and from July 2002 through to January 2006 Dr Hamiti served as media advisor and spokesman to the former President of Kosova, Dr Ibrahim Rugova. Prior to being appointed Kosova's Ambassador to London in 2008, in February 2006 Dr Hamiti was the senior political advisor to Rugova's successor to the Presidency of Kosovo, Dr Fatmir Sejdiu.
