Queen's Birthday Honours at LSE

Dr Hong Lu 140pLSE would like to congratulate all staff, former staff and alumni recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2015.  

Dr Hong Lu (pictured right) from LSE's Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) has been recognised in the latest list of royal recipients for the Queen’s birthday honours list. She has received an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her contributions to the Chinese community and for her efforts in promoting China UK relations.

Dr Hong Lu co-ordinates CIBL's activities and is also chair of the CEDP Chinese Centre.

In 2014 the Institute was named Confucius Institute of the Year, beating a field of 476 other global Confucius Institutes.

The Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) was established at LSE in 2006 and is one of 25 Confucius Institutes in the UK. The Institute aims to promote Chinese for business to the local community and foster greater understanding of Chinese language and business culture.

Former LSE staff

Elizabeth Chapman MBE, former Director of Library Services at LSE, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to higher education and libraries. 

John Beath OBE, former LSE employee and Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of St. Andrews, has received an OBE for services to Economics.

Alumni to receive awards include

Dr Dame Nemat Shafik, MSc Economics 1986, Dame Commander for services to public administration and the global economy.

Professor Sir Stephen Nickell, MSc Econometrics & Mathematical Economics 1970 has been knighted for his services to economics.

Jonathan Blair CBE, BSc Economics 1972, MPhil/PhD International Relations 1973, Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to film.

Jack Boyer OBE, MSc International Relations 1983, Order of the British Empire for services to science and engineering. 

Greg Clark CBE, MPhil/PhD Regional Planning 2001, Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to economic development.

William Evans OBE, BSc Economics 1967, Order of the British Empire for services to education.

Professor Jane Falkingham OBE, BSc International Trade & Development 1984, MSc Demography 1985, Order of the British Empire for services to social science.

Dr Loyd Grossman CBE, MSc Economic History 1977, MPhil/PhD Economic History 1981, Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to heritage.

Robert Humphreys MBE, BSc Sociology 1982, Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to alcohol policy.

Dr David Kennedy CBE, MPhil/PhD Economics 1995, Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the environment.

Dame Una O'Brien, MSc International Relations 1984, Dame Commander of the Order of the Bath for  public service, particularly to healthcare.

Kate Orrick MBE, MSc Human Rights 2004, Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to development and humanitarian assistance. 

Edward Richards CBE, BSc Industrial Relations & Human Resource Management 1987, MSc Industrial Relations 1989, Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the media, telecomms and communications markets.
