Queen's Birthday Honours at LSE

Janet StockdaleDr Janet Stockdale has been awarded an MBE in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to higher education. Janet is a senior lecturer in Social Psychology and Dean of the University of London International Programmes at LSE. She has been a member of the Social Psychology Department at LSE since completing her undergraduate degree and doctorate at University College London.  As well as lecturing in Social Psychology, Janet has undertaken a number of School-wide roles including Adviser to Women Students (1985-89), Dean of Admissions (1990-92), Dean of Recruitment (1992-98) and Dean of Undergraduate Studies (2006-12).  

Commenting on the MBE, Janet said,

“I am very honoured to have received this award.  However, I think it is important to recognise that much of what I have achieved in my long career at LSE is down to teamwork and I would like to thank all my colleagues for their contribution, both to the welfare of students and to maintaining academic and professional standards.”

Charlie BeanProfessor Charlie Bean, deputy governor of the Bank of England and visiting professor in the Department of Economics at LSE, has been knighted for his services to monetary policy and central banking. Before his time at the Bank of England, Charlie Bean was a longstanding member of academic staff at LSE, and was head of the Department of Economics. Dr Ros Altmann
, LSE governor, pensions expert and champion of the rights of pensioners, received a CBE for for services to pensioners and pension provision.

Martin Lewis, LSE governor and former general secretary of the LSE Students' Union, received an OBE for his services to consumer rights and charitable services. He is a campaigning TV and radio presenter and the founder of the popular Money Saving Expert website. Dr Wendi Momen, LSE governor, social justice campaigner and long-serving Justice of the Peace, was awarded an MBE for services to the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and to the community of Bedfordshire.

Kate Barker,economist and author of the 'Barker Review' into UK housing supply, has been made a Dame for her services to the economy. Kate Baker is chair of the advisory board of the Spatial Economics Research Centre at LSE (SERC) and a member of the advisory board of LSE's Centre for Economic Performance (CEP).

Dame Hilary Mantel,
LLB 1971.  Award-winning author of Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies,  Dame Commander for her services to literature.

Mrs Menna F. Rawlings CMG,
BSc International Relations 1989, Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George for services to the development of human resources in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Dr Sir Anthony F Seldon
,PhD International History 1981, Knight Bachelor for services to Education and to Modern Political History.

Mr Simon J Virley CB, MSc(Econ) Economics 1995, Order of Bath Companion for services to Energy Security and Supply.
