LSE Sustainable Projects Fund nominated for Guardian University Awards

Sustainable LSEThe London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)’s Sustainable Projects Fund (SPF) has been nominated for a 2014 Guardian University Award. LSE is one of three universities shortlisted in the Sustainability Project category.

The Sustainable Projects Fund, run by the LSESU’s Sustainable Futures Society and supported by LSE’s Sustainability Team, is used to finance student and staff-led projects that enhance sustainability on the LSE campus. Now in its fifth year, the fund has been an innovative way to draw attention to priority areas of sustainability, such as carbon management, biodiversity, waste reduction, energy, water use and education/awareness. Previous projects include the green roof on top of the Plaza Cafe, LSE beehives, greening of core maths courses, a garden at Passfield Hall, bike maintenance stations and many more.

Anna Carlson, President of the Sustainable Futures Society, said: “The Sustainable Projects Fund has supported loads of projects that have improved sustainability on campus, while supporting the development of LSE students. We’re really happy to be shortlisted for this award, which recognises these achievements.”

Martin Bolton, Head of Environmental Sustainability at LSE, said: “The Estates Division Sustainability Team is very pleased to support the Sustainable Projects Fund, which draws on the collective ingenuity and enthusiasm of LSE students and staff to bring real benefits to the life of the School. This scheme has now been replicated in other universities, further demonstrating its positive potential in the wider community.”

LSE’s Sustainable Projects Fund is up against Loughborough University’s Eat Your Campus, and the University of Northampton’s Biodiversity Index.
