Journalist and former World Bank economist awarded LSE Honorary Degrees (19 December 2012)

LSE has awarded two Honorary Degrees this year. Professor Justin Yifu Lin (pictured) received his on Tuesday 18 December, with journalist Nick Davies being awarded his on Wednesday 19 December.


LSE academic receives Innovation in Teaching Politics Award (4 December 2012)

Professor Edward Page has been awarded a Political Studies Association Innovation in Teaching Politics Award for his Empirical Research in Government module.  


Partnership PhD Mobility Bursaries awarded for 2012-13 (12 November 2012)

Ten LSE postgraduate students have been given the opportunity to spend two to three months at one of LSE’s five institutional partner institutions in 2012-13 through the School’s Partnership PhD Mobility Bursaries scheme.

LSE gets 'double first' for environmental achievements (12 September 2012)

LSE has been recognised for its environmental achievements, with its Environmental Management System being awarded the internationally-recognised ISO 14001 status and the School obtaining  a ‘Platinum’ award under the Higher Education-specific ‘Eco Campus’ system.


New holder of Norman Sosnow Chair in Economics announced (15 June 2012)

Professor Francesco Caselli has been appointed the next Norman Sosnow Chair in Economics by the Department of Economics. Professor Caselli took up the title on 1 June.

LSE maintains its First in 2012 Green League (29 May 2012)

For the fourth year running, LSE has been awarded a First for its environmental and ethical performance in the People & Planet Green League 2012.


LSE ranked as UK's third best university by the Guardian University Guide 2013 (22 May 2012)

The Guide shows a rise in six of the School's subject rankings and a big increase in the School's average teaching score, which rose to an impressive 93.9 from 84.7.

LSE student wins Future Business Leader of the Year Award (8 May 2012)

Vyacheslav Polonski has won the Future Business Leader of the Year Award at the national TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year 2012 Awards event, which took place in April.

Animal farm comes to campus (2 May 2012)

Students and staff were in for a treat today when a selection of farmyard animals arrived on campus. The petting zoo event was organised by the LSESU, as part of their ‘De-stress Fest’, in an attempt to help students de-stress during the exam period.

The Complete University Guide 2013 has ranked LSE as the second best university in the UK and the best university in London.


Growing esteem for LSE as the School rises in world reputation rankings (15 March 2012)

LSE has jumped eight places in the second annual rankings of global universities based on their reputation among senior academics, ranking 29th in the world and fifth in the UK.



Professor Peter Loizos 1937-2012   (5 March 2012)

The School is sad to announce that Emeritus Professor Peter Loizos, who taught in the Department of Anthropology for over 30 years, died on Friday 2 March.

Harvard academic Professor Michael Sandel will give a series of three public lectures at LSE on 8 and 9 March, entitled 'The Public Philosopher'. The lectures will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4.

LSE granted planning permission for Bankside House redevelopment (4 January 2012)

LSE has been granted planning permission by the London Borough of Southwark for an extension and partial refurbishment of the Bankside House hall of residence.
