Legacy Futures Lunch

The impact of a legacy gift is long lasting. From the well-used rooms in the Library and New Academic Building, to the doors opened by scholarships and research funding, gifts of all sizes play a fundamental role in the future of LSE. Henry Hunt Hutchinson, whose legacy founded the School, could not have imagined that LSE would be tackling issues of climate change and global economics more than 100 years later. Over £13 million of support has been received and pledged through the legacy programme. Thank you to all our supporters who are making sure that LSE is able to tackle the questions of tomorrow.

Legacy Futures Lunch

We were delighted to have celebrated this year's Futures lunch with so many familiar faces and welcome many new one's, on Wednesday 30th June. The warm weather beckoned guests to enjoy drinks on the roof terrace, before the programme formally kicked off with a welcome from Andy Farrell, LSE's Director of Finance and Facilities, who gave an update on the School's financial health.

This was followed by speeches from two LSE Legacy scholars, Caroline Francis and Emina Hodzic, and a wonderful presentation on the LSE: A History in Pictures project|, from LSE library staff, Anna Towlson and Viki Carolan. Anna and Viki were particularly pleased at receiving help from guests on the identities of a number of unknown individuals in the photos, and were also able to collect a number of anecdotes and comments on the day which will be added to the 'official' history of LSE through the Flickr site.

Professor Derek Diamond was just one of the School's admired supporters to share some his personal anecdotes – noting that unlike the photos on display – the moments that he remembered could not have been caught on camera!

Thanks and concluding remarks came from the host, Adrian Hall, LSE's Secretary and Director of Administration, who reiterated the importance of all legacy bequests, and in particular, those designated for unrestricted purposes which would allow the School to meet the future needs of the School most effectively.

Thank you to everyone who participated in making the day a success, and to all of our valued supporters for their commitment to the well-being of the School for future generations of students.
