Donors thanked at third Annual Fund reception (July 2014) 
The third Annual Fund donor reception took place in June. The event provides an opportunity to recognise and thank Annual Fund donors of all levels, and for donors to meet Annual Fund beneficiaries and to learn further about the impact their support has at the School.

A fruitful year for sport: how the Annual Fund played its part (June 2014) 
LSE has recorded an outstanding season in sport, winning premierships in four different sports and jumping 15 places in the national British University College Sport (BUCS) league. Annual Fund donors can claim their own slice of credit for such sporting achievements, assisted as they were by two Annual Fund grants: the Ambassadors for Sport programme from 2012/13, and the LSESU Focus Team Programme from 2013/14.

Scholarship fund set up with alumnus' legacy gift (June 2014)
The School has received a landmark legacy gift from an alumnus, worth over £1m, to be directed towards student support. William Simpson's (Bachelor of Commerce 1937) gift was a means of recognising the significance of his LSE education and degree in his achievements.

Student conference seeks to find the causes of things (May 2014)
Annual Fund support played a significant role in the establishment of the first ever RCC Conference, named after the School motto of Rerum Cognoscere Causas – ‘to understand the causes of things’. The conference was organised by students on the LSE CEMS Master’s in International Management course. 

LSE receives major gift to create new Southeast Asia Centre (April 2014)
LSE has received a significant donation from Professor Saw Swee Hock to establish a new academic centre focused on Southeast Asia, as announced at the LSE Asia Forum 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Third Polish Economic Forum benefits from Annual Fund support (April 2014) 
Annual Fund support has enabled the LSE SU Polish Business Society to host the third Polish Economic Forum, which took place on 1 March. One of the biggest student conferences on campus, this year’s forum saw over 480 attendees and an impressive array of speakers.

Spring 2014 Impact online (April 2014)
The latest edition of our newsletter for the supporters of LSE, Impact, is now online. The Spring edition features images from the now open Saw Swee Hock Student Centre with thoughts from those who have moved in, a summary of the strands of work at the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) and a detailed look at the transformative impact of legacy giving.  

Widening Participation event hosted at the Bank of England (February 2014)
LSE’s Widening Participation Programme was celebrated with a unique event in the Court Room at the Bank of England, hosted by the Bank of England and LSE, in collaboration with Tim Frost (BSc Government 1987), LSE Governor and Non-Executive Director of the Bank of England. Read more.

General Course student support extended (February 2014)
The John C Phelan General Course Scholarships have been renewed for another three years, extending support to students up to the 2016-17 academic year. First established by alumnus John Phelan in 2006, the renewal of the gift will see ten General Course students supported from 2014-15 over a three year period.

Faith Centre supported by Kiereinis' gift (February 2014)
The parents of an alumnus have made a gift towards the creation of a stained glass window within the Faith Centre of the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre, in memory of their late son. 

Students given development project opportunity thanks to Annual Fund (January 2014)
Annual Fund support has enabled 30 LSE students to travel to Ghana as part of the LSESU Global Brigades 2013 project. 

Annual Fund backing for sport at LSE (January 2014) 
Sporting societies and initiatives across LSE have benefited from Annual Fund support this year, underlining the Fund’s attempts to enhance the student experience outside of the classroom.  

Autumn 2013 Impact online (November 2013)
The latest edition of our newsletter for the supporters of LSE, Impact, is now online. The Autumn edition features news of a $1,000,000 gift for entrepreneurship, an in depth look at academic initiatives supported by The Open Society Foundations and an interview with alumnus and long-standing donor and volunteer, Richard Karl Goeltz (General Course 1963).   

Michaelmas calling campaign underway (November 2013)
The Annual Fund calling campaign for the 2013/14 academic year has kicked off with a brand new calling team. Twenty-eight current LSE students are taking to the phones to speak to alumni about their time at the School, to outline the range of benefits that are available to alumni and to outline how they can give back through the Annual Fund.

Stiftung Mercator support enables Dahrendorf Symposium on Climate Change (November 2013)
Former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, was among panellists at the 2013 Dahrendorf Symposium, entitled ‘Changing the European Debate: Focus on Climate Change’. The Symposium, held in Berlin, brought together leading international thinkers from academia, politics, economy, civil society and media.

Annual Fund donor report available online (October 2013)
LSE’s Annual Fund report to donors for 2012/13 has now been published and is available online in a brand new interactive format. The report showcases some of the many projects that have benefited from a record level of funding, which totalled over £1 million, and now features a number of clickable links to web, audio, video and social media content. 

Annual Fund backed drama takes to the Fringe (October 2013)
Annual Fund support has enabled the LSESU Drama Society, The Revolving Shed, to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe, where they have appeared for the third time.

MacArthur support for civil society dialogue and research (October 2013)
The School is delighted to announce receipt of a grant of $75,000 from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for researchers in the Department of International Development. The award will enable researchers from the Civil Society and Human Security Unit to establish a dialogue between Kenyan, Ugandan and Balkan activists on civil society’s interactions with international and transitional justice institutions. 

Santander increase student support (September 2013)
Santander have increased their support for LSE students through scholarships, mobility support and internships as part of their Hopes and Dreams higher education campaign.

July School launches in Cape Town (August 2013)
The inaugural LSE-UCT July School was held this summer at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa, attended by 100 participants from more than 30 countries, offering six courses focused on major social science issues, all with relevance to Africa today. 

Annual Fund support for student-led initiatives (August 2013)
Over the 2012/13 academic year, the Annual Fund continued to support student-led academic initiatives, exemplified, to a large extent, by a number of conferences which have taken place through its backing.
