Judge Jeremy McMullen QC – Supporting department activities

 NAB

Judge Jeremy McMullen was a student at LSE between 1971-72 on the MSc Industrial Relations course. He went on to be the legal officer of the GMB, a barrister and QC at Old Square Chambers and a senior circuit judge at the Employment Appeals Tribunal.
His wife Debbie notes “He studied under the late Lord Bill Wedderburn and Roy Lewis. Roy later went to the bar and became Jeremy’s pupil for a while, before joining Old Square Chambers. Jeremy made long lasting friendships with other LSE students: most notably David Cockburn, Michael Rubenstein and the late Derek Scott among others. Jeremy always treasured his association with the LSE and the many relationships, professional and social, it afforded him.”

He used every opportunity to encourage and train others in the practice of employment law in pursuit of a lifetime’s ambition to secure fair treatment for the underprivileged. In his last months, he established a charity in the Middle Temple to help disadvantaged female students become barristers.

Jeremy’s gift has been used by the Law Department to further the activity of its faculty and students.
