Introduction to Pathways Programmes (Years 10/11)

Throughout 2017-18 LSE will be delivering Law and Finance events for students in Year 10 and Year 11.

These events will provide the opportunity to spend time on campus exploring higher education and finding out more about law or finance-related degrees as well as legal and financial careers. Students who have attended these events will be encouraged to apply to the relevant Pathways programme when they reach Year 12.

Schools can apply for the following activities:

1. Intro to Pathways: Law (Year 10 and 11 activities) –designed for pupils from Years 10 and 11 to give an insight into studying law at university, as well as a general understanding of university life and LSE. We hope that these students who take part in these taster sessions will consider applying for the LSE Sutton Trust Pathways to Law programme when they are in Year 12.

2. Intro to Pathways: Banking and Finance –designed for pupils from Year 11 to give an insight into studying finance-related subjects at university. Students will take part in academic and career sessions, and will have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field.

Individual students can apply for the following event:

Introduction to Pathways: Law, Banking and Finance Conference - June 2018

The conference, supported by the Sutton Trust, will lead Year 10 and Year 11 participants through an engaging programme of lectures and workshops focused on law, banking and finance. Participants will:

  • Take part in taster lecture sessions run by LSE Law and LSE Finance academics
  • Get advice from current LSE undergraduate students
  • Network with professionals and experts in the field
  • Meet other students from across London interested in the same subject areas

The conference is free to attend and lunch will be provided. Travel reimbursement is also available with a valid receipt.

Selection Criteria for schools

We will prioritise London state schools and colleges that meet one or more of the following:

  • Perform below the national average at GCSE, based on percentage of students achieving 5A*-C including English and Maths and/or the Attainment 8 measure
  • Have a high proportion (more than 35.1%) of pupils eligible for free school meals
  • Perform below the national average at A level based on the points per entry measure

To maximise the impact of Widening Participation activity we ask schools to select, where possible, students from the backgrounds least represented in higher education.

We will base our final decisions upon a rounded assessment of all the relevant factors provided by the school, in addition to the above criteria.
