Course timetables

You will get your class schedule and full course timetable on the first day of teaching. Classes typically take place between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Where to go on your first day

Shortly before the start of Summer School we will provide a timetable containing lectures and locations for your first day of teaching. Please note that lectures either take place in the morning from 10am- 1pm or afternoon from 2pm-5pm.

Typically, lecture times will remain the same for the duration of the course. Most classes also involve another shorter class each day, further details will be given on the first day of teaching.

Course changes

Course changes are permitted during the first two days of each session, however changes can only take place where the applicant is suitably qualified and where the course has space. Unfortunately, some courses may have a maximum capacity either due to teaching or room constraints. We will endeavour to permit course transfers wherever possible, subject to the approval of the course lecturer and Academic Director.

All transfers must be made through the Summer School Office.

After the first 2 days it is not possible to transfer courses under any circumstances.

Exams and Assessments

Assessment will be based on the results of two examinations or, alternatively, a final examination and assessed work. The final examination will take place on the last day of the course.

Examinations are not compulsory (see below).

A detailed examination timetable will be distributed during the course. Examinations are normally two hours in length and are conducted under regular LSE examination regulations.

*Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the LSE exam regualtions*

Important: Please take into consideration when making travel arrangements that the last examinations will officially end at 6pm on the final Friday of each session.

Special Examination Arrangements

We are happy to make arrangements for candidates who are entitled to extra examination time due to medical reasons. However, students will need to give notification and provide official proof of their medical condition to the Summer School Office in the first week of the programme. It is not possible to guarantee special arrangements after this.

Candidates who claim impairment of their examination performance due to illness will need to provide a detailed medical certificate from either their own, or the LSE doctor, to support their case. In cases where this is accepted a note will be added to the transcript stating that the student's performance was impaired due to circumstances beyond their control.

Certificates and credit

Summer school students can choose to pursue either a graded certificate or opt-out of sitting the exams and receive an attendance certificate.

Students who wish to receive credit towards their degree will need to contact either their Study Abroad Office or the office in their university that deals with external credit.
