Facilities at LSE

Opening Hours during Summer School:

Library building open: Monday to Friday 9am-11pm
Saturday and Sunday: 11am-10pm
Staffed Services open: Monday to Friday 9am-7pm

The LSE Library is the major national library of social sciences. Almost all its four million separate items are accessible to students. A computerised catalogue and a number of online databases can be accessed to help students find the publications they require, both in the Library or elsewhere in the University of London.

The Library has rich collections of government publications from all over the world, a wealth of statistical material, important collections of manuscripts and rare books and long runs of a large number of journals. Photocopying and IT facilities are provided, and there is space for more than 1,000 people to study in comfort.

IT Services

After registration, all Summer School students will be given an IT account which will enable them to log on to the LSE network and access common desktop applications and specialist software, as well as secure personal file space and an LSE email address.

There are approximately 1,000 networked Windows PCs available and students will have access to printing facilities on campus. There is also an extensive wireless network from which access to the internet and email can be gained. All residences are wired for direct connection to the School network, and in most of the residences, laptops can be used in the bedroom or in the residence wireless zones, which are located in the social and recreational areas. Full details of the IT facilities and any requirements for laptop access will be supplied to accepted students.

LSE Health Centre

All Summer School students may register at the LSE Health Centre for medical treatment of day-to-day problems that arise during their visit - a small charge may apply. Students from non-EU countries are strongly advised to take out medical insurance for the duration of their stay.

Catering and shops

Our catering facilities offer a wide range of foods and drinks together with the opportunity to socialise with friends and colleagues. There are six restaurants and cafés and three pubs on campus, which provide quality food and drink at affordable prices.

The campus bookstore, Waterstone's Economists' Bookshop stocks all course textbooks and a wide range of other literature. It is possible to order books for international shipping via their website. The Students' Union is also home to Alpha Books, where many course books can be purchased secondhand, as well as the Copy Shop and STA Travel (a travel agency for students).

Sports Facilities

The Students' Union provides a fitness centre fully staffed by qualified instructors plus three squash courts.

Lincoln's Inn Fields, opposite the New Academic Building, provides tennis courts, and four competition size swimming pools are within two miles of the campus.
