Teaching Assistant Opportunities

LSE and the University of Cape Town ('UCT') will be running the fifth innovative LSE-UCT July School during June/July 2017. This programme aims to build on, and deepen, LSE’s partnership with UCT, as well as provide opportunities for LSE’s faculty and students to study contemporary Africa from within the exciting city of Cape Town.

The July School is taught intensively over two weeks with students attending one course throughout the whole fortnight. LSE faculty lead and teach about half of the courses on the LSE-UCT July School, each of which has an African focus. The LSE-UCT July School takes place from 26th June - 7th July 2016, and courses normally comprise 36 hours of lectures and 12 hours of classes, assessed through a written essay and closed-book exam. In 2016, the LSE-UCT July School recruited 90 students and attracted participants from 27 countries, with a significant proportion of participants being graduate professionals working in a wide variety of fields.

We will be recruiting Teaching Assistants (TAs) for the LSE-UCT July School in spring 2017. TAs provide support in the morning lectures and then lead the afternoon classes, and also contribute to marking and assessment. They also have additional responsibilities for student support and planning. Further information can be found in the TA job description. In addition to a salary, flights and accommodation for the duration of the programme are included, and we are happy to assist TAs in gaining access to faculty, PhD students or other resources at UCT which may assist in their research and career development.

We will invite expressions of interest from current LSE PhD students who wish to be Teaching Assistants on the 2017 courses. The list of which classes require TAs will be published on this page; please check for updates on this page from April 2017.
