Who are you?
My name is Wei-Heng Yen (nickname Ping Pong), and I am studying the shipping and management programme at the National Taiwan Ocean University in Taiwan.
What did you study on the LSE-UCT July School?
I studied the Economic History course because I wanted to learn about the economy and history of a continent which I had not studied before.
Both the lecturer, Dr Leigh Gardner, and the teaching assistant were fantastic, and I admired that they were open-minded and keen to hear the views of the students. It was important to learn from my classmates, and the best part of the July School for me was that I built an international network with a diverse group of engaged and intellectual people.
How was your experience of Cape Town?
The range of sightseeing activities is amazing! From going to the beach, to wildlife spotting (penguins, seals, birds …) to the national botanic garden and Table Mountain. The nightlife is also great with plenty of restaurants and bars. A must-visit city!
