Who are you?
My name is Basil David Kivedo. I studied at the University of the Western Cape where I obtained a degree in Sociology and a Masters in Sociology. I am currently the Executive Mayor of the Breede Valley Municipality in the Bpland, RSA.
What did you study on the LSE-UCT July School?
I chose "Poverty: What causes it and what it causes" because poverty and poverty alleviation are the two greatest challenges that we face in South Africa. The course was extremely informative with relevant content that could be applied to all contexts, especially to South Africa.
What did you enjoy most about the LSE-UCT July School?
The bonding of students from all over the world. The interaction, debates and mutual respect for opinions expressed, as well as the empathy, support and encouragement of the course instructor and teaching assistants. They made difficult topics easier to understand and discuss.
