I recently graduated from the LSE under a full scholarship from the Central Bank of Malaysia and have since returned to work in the Legal Department of the Bank. Studying at the LSE was a stimulating experience due to its unique emphasis on socio-legal theory and the variety of specialist subjects available. It has given me a good theoretical foundation which I am now able to apply in my advisory work for the Bank, which encompasses many areas of law including commercial law, constitutional and administrative law, and public international law. The Law Department also provides excellent supervision from leading academics in their respective fields. As a result, my undergraduate dissertation for Competition Law will be published as an article in an upcoming issue of a European law journal in mid-2011.

I have more than 15 years' experience in executive and advisory roles in trade policy, public sector reform and socio-economic development, with a focus on strategy design & implementation, organization restructuring and large scale transformations and turnarounds. Before joining Cisco as country director, I was a director with Booz & Company. Prior to that I held several positions in government, as an advisor for the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Undersecretary for the Ministry of Economy and Trade in Lebanon and advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Trade of Qatar. After leaving LSE I went to Cambridge for a PhD in International Trade.

Whilst studying for my master's I was also a Student Research Affiliate with the LSE International Humanitarian Law Project. I am currently a senior legal officer for the Australian Government. I advise on various aspects of international law, including sovereign immunities, human rights and humanitarian law, aviation and space, environment and fisheries, and international arbitration. I have presented papers on a number of issues in international law at various conferences. I have also been a guest lecturer on international law and its domestic implementation.

After Leaving LSE in 2009, I took an internship for 6 months at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in Washington DC and then returned to Caracas to be appointed Adjunct Professor of Public International Law at the Metropolitan University of Caracas, where I also conduct research within the areas of International Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law and the mutual linkages between criminal responsibility and state responsibility.

I have worked as both a lawyer and as an academic. I have a JD from Fordham University, an MSc in Criminal Justice Policy from the LSE and a PhD from the Department of Law and the Department of Sociology (dual registration, supervisors Robert Reiner and Paul Rock). My PhD was a comparative study of the criminal trials of Jack 'Dr. Death' Kevorkian, whose trials I attended from 1996-1999. Also emanating from the original source of my doctoral field work is a monthly column for 'The New York Resident,' regarding travel, hotels, dining, theatre and the arts, historical sights and spas. I am currently working on a book project.
