Student life

The Students' Union represents LSE students and aims to ensure that your time at the School is not just about studying but is also as enjoyable as possible. The Union organises entertainment and funds over 150 student societies covering a wide range of interests. These societies add a huge amount to students’ experience of LSE and of London. The variety of societies and activities change with the interests and initiative of each new group of students; an A-Z listing of the current student societies can be found on the Students' Union website|.

Student profile:

Louise Caffrey, Ireland

MPhil/PhD Social Policy

I was awarded an LSE PhD Scholarship in 2010 and am now almost two years through my programme in the Social Policy Department. This scholarship has enabled me to focus full-time on my PhD research, with supervision from the leading academic in my area. I have had the privilege to examine, in great depth, a topic which I find both intellectually stimulating and important. Throughout I have had the opportunity to study alongside highly accomplished and engaged peers from around the world and have had access to the incredible breadth and depth of expertise on hand throughout the entirety of LSE.

Undertaking a PhD at LSE will, I hope open new opportunities and possibilities for me in the future. In and of itself it has also been an incredible intellectual journey, which challenges and enriches at every turn.
