Timeframe for decisions

Due to the complexity of the application process it is not possible to give an exact timetable that is applicable to all applicants.

There are four possible decision stages:

  1. First choice initial decision
  2. Second choice initial decision
  3. Waiting list decision (either choice)
  4. Second waiting list decision (a rare case where an applicant has been placed on the waiting list for both of their choices)

Each stage can take up to a maximum of eight weeks. The total time frame may be much reduced if both programme options are in one department. Please be aware that decisions for PhD programmes can take longer, as applications have to be considered by several selectors in order to allocate a suitable supervisor.

At each decision stage, you will be sent an official offer letter or email informing you of a final decision (offer / reject) or an interim decision (waiting list). Your status will be kept updated on the online status tracker| as well. The online status tracker is updated live with our computer system and is the most up-to-date source of information regarding your application available to us.

Decisions are published online first and offers are confirmed by letter within 28 days.  You will be able to see the conditions of any offer on the application tracker|. Other decisions are communicated by email only.

If you are unsuccessful or your first two choices are too full and you request to be considered for further programmes, you re-start the process from the beginning with your new choices.
