The second Masterclass for 2014, An Urban Century: Cities and Citizens in the 21st Century, will take place in Madrid from Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 July 2014 at the Fundación Ramón Areces.
The concept of the city has come to play a central role with policy makers. The design of the built environment, the distribution of urban density, and their impacts on social cohesion and quality of life are at the forefront of discussions in this sphere. In this rapidly changing context, we need to understand how cities are transforming and how we can push for sustainable design. The Masterclass will begin by investigating growth and development strategies, drawing together case studies from across Europe, USA and Asia. The second day will then focuses on sustainable energy and transport in urban environments. Finally, the Masterclass will finish by discussing low carbon growth, including business opportunities for cities.
