Eligibility criteria

  1. Any LSE student, regardless of nationality, is eligible to apply for an Erasmus Mobility Grant provided that:
    • you are on a course of study that leads to a recognised degree or diploma;
    • you are fully registered at LSE.
  2. We cannot award a mobility grant if you are in your first year of higher education or your exchange takes place after your period of registration has ended.
  3. Mobility grants are awarded exclusively for full time undergraduate or postgraduate studies abroad, including thesis preparation. This excludes research activities not specifically part of a course of studies leading to a recognised diploma or degree.
  4. We cannot award mobility grants for periods abroad which last:
    • less than 3 months, or one full academic term;
    • more than one academic year.
  5. The study period abroad must commence before June in the academic year in question.

How to apply

  1. If you are interested in participating in an Erasmus exchange and if you meet the criteria set out above, please email Erasmus@lse.ac.uk. You will need to identify a potential host institution in the table above, and obtain approval from the listed LSE departmental contact.

  2. Once your application has been processed, you will receive written confirmation about your acceptance to the programme, your eligibility to receive an Erasmus grant, and how much that will amount to. The host institution may ask you to complete further application documentation.

You will also be sent a Student Grant Agreement, a Learning Agreement, and a link to an online Student Report Form which must be completed for eligibility of your grant. Money will be sent to you in the form of a cheque or by bank transfer; your confirmation email will provide you with further information. It is your responsibility to make sure the documentation is completed or it may be requested to be returned by the British Council.

Can LSE support my work placement under Erasmus?

LSE does not currently support work placements in the EU under the Erasmus+ programme.
