The 690th Lord Mayor of London visits Madrid

The 690th Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Charles Bowman, visited Madrid on 7-8 March, 2018, to strengthen ties between the UK and Spain in the financial and related professional services sector, in particular with regards to Brexit.

The Lord Mayor met senior business representatives during a “Leadership and Strategy” lunch organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain on 7 March. Mr Adam Austerfield, Director of Global Market Development at LSE Enterprise and National Vice-President of the British Chamber of Commerce, gave the opening speech with a short history of the City of London, referring to its 500-year international roots, whilst making reference to LSE´s global student composition and outlook.

The Lord Mayor also awarded the first Mansion House scholarship in Spain to Omar Vega Kurson, a young Spanish graduate who has been accepted on the MSc in Finance at LSE next September. The LSE Alumni Association Spain and LSE Enterprise were invited to the ceremony, as both entities closely collaborated with the FCO and the Mansion House in order to identify potential scholars.
