The BSc in Actuarial Science, BSc in Business, Mathematics and Statistics and BSc in Financial Mathematics and Statistics offer the opportunity to build on your mathematical skills and apply them to areas such as insurance, banking, finance and statistics. Previous experience of statistics is not necessary to apply for these courses but you should have studied mathematics at A level and have an enthusiasm for the subject.
The department also offers three taught MSc programmes and an MPhil/PhD in Statistics. The MSc in Statistics provides students with intensive training in statistics applicable to the social sciences, econometrics and finance. Graduates of the MSc are awarded the professional status of Graduate Statistician by The Royal Statistical Society on application. The Financial Statistics stream of the MSc Statistics programme is mainly intended for students wishing to pursue careers in the finance industry.
The MSc in Risk and Stochastics started in September 2004. It offers in-depth instruction in advanced mathematical risk theory and its ramifications in insurance, finance and their interface.
