Abstract	Survival extrapolation appears, implicitly or explicitly, in several applications of medical statistics and health economics. In this presentation we describe two distinct flexible methods that may be used to extrapolate survival. We analyse the underlying modeling assumptions and illustrate our approach using examples from cardiothoracic transplantation
