Abstract
|
The remediation of contaminated sites is a complex and uncertain activity which is often subject to substantial cost overruns. Using the machinery of real options, this note first derives explicit robust formulas that should improve ex ante cost assessments of some generic cleanup strategies. The exercise aims notably to enhance the redevelopment of idle contaminated industrial facilities (commonly known as "brownfields").
