Research Committee

The Departmental Research Committee (established 2002) fosters research initiatives, research culture and research dissemination that will secure for LSE Sociology a leading role in the discipline, nationally and internationally.

Within the department, the Committee works to develop the departmental research strategy and oversee its implementation; oversee the creation of research clusters based common intellectual agendas; develop systems for research mentoring; advise on research grant applications; and develop strategies for engagement with the wider public.

Externally, the Committee aims to develop the public role and profile of the department within the School, the discipline and in interdisciplinary forums; build links with cognate departments, centres and institutes within the School; ensure that departmental research clusters are actively positioned within broader research networks and collaborations; oversee and provide strategic direction for knowledge exchange and impact activities; and develop and disseminate research through non-academic bodies within London, the UK and internationally.

The Committee is currently chaired by Carrie Friese, with Robin Archer, Chetan Bhatt, Ricky Burdett, Nigel Dodd, Louise Fisher, Emma Glassey, David Madden, Claire Moon and Mike Savage as members and Anna Johnston as Secretary.
