Consumer Psychology Research in China on TV

Dr Ben Voyer, a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Social Psychology, was invited on May 21 by CNBC Europe to discuss the evolution of luxury consumption in China. In his live interview, he discussed his recent research on cross-cultural consumer psychology (Kastanakis & Voyer, 2014), explaining how collectivist values guide consumers towards goods that allow them to reinforce their feeling of belonging to groups. Dr Voyer also discussed his work looking at how online shopping environments could affect consumer psychology (Voyer & Tran, 2013), and the dangers of assuming that the store experience could easily be replicated online.
