A 90 minute session which looked at the techniques and methods that are currently in use within Local Authorities with the aim of expanding knowledge, sharing methods and learning about techniques and data sources to help to solve the awkward question of "What
is the population within our Local Authority Area?"
The aim being to provide a forum for the sharing of techniques, data sources, ideas and links which can be documented and updated to produce a tool-kit for population analysis which may be added to and dipped into subsequently either via the BSPS web-site or on a dedicated Communities of Practice forum. Topics which it was aimed to cover:-1. LA level population estimates2. LA level projections3. Small area estimates/projections
4. Finding the data
5. Presenting, understanding and explaining the data
6. Discussion on how to advance the findings.
The session was led by Piers Elias, Tees Valley Unlimited and Eileen Howes, formerly of the GLA.
