Orientation 2014

Welcome to the Department of Social Policy!

These pages contain important information about the departmental Orientation and your programme welcome activities. You should also take time to review the Information for current students| pages as they contain important information about your programme of study, School Regulations, department activities and more.

If you have not yet accepted your offer or your offer is conditional, further details can be viewed on the undergraduate| and graduate| 'information for offer holders' web pages.

You should also refer to the Your first weeks|  and Orientation| web pages for all of the information that you will need to help you settle in at LSE during the first few weeks.

Department orientation timetable

Please take a moment to look at the Department orientation timetable|, which provides a schedule of the School, Department and programme meetings that you should attend, as well as the date/time you will need to register for your programme of study.

It is extremely important for you to attend your programme induction meeting.
If you are unable to attend, you should inform the programme administrator as soon as possible.

Similarly, you should aim to register on the given date as late registration will result in late access to School resources such as the library and computer systems.

Professor David Lewis|, Head of the Department of Social Policy, hopes that you will join him at the Department orientation meeting on Wednesday 1 October from 12:00-13:00 in the Old Theatre in the main building. He will introduce key members of departmental staff and representatives from the various support services in the School (e.g. Library, Careers Service, IT Services).

Programme welcome information

Over the Summer period you will receive correspondence from your programme director/administrator, which will contain information about your programme orientation meeting along with other resources such as preliminary reading lists.

The programme administrators for each programme are listed below, along with PDF copies of  welcome letters as they are being issued.

Course options and the LSE Calendar

The Department strongly advises students to consider their course options in advance of their arrival at LSE using the information in the LSE Calendar|
The Calendar details all of the programme regulations (the compulsory and optional courses for each programme) and contains brief guides for each of the courses on offer.

Please also refer the Department Index of Courses| for current 2014/15 course availability information.

Be prepared to make your course choices using the LSE for You| Course Choice System as soon as it opens to avoid dissappointment.  More information about selecting courses is available on the Student Services Centre| website.
