This course is compulsory on the MSc in International Relations and MSc in International Relations (LSE and Sciences Po). This course is not available as an outside option.
MSc IR students are required to write a 10,000 word dissertation on a topic within the field of IR, approved by their academic mentor. The dissertation need not be an account of original research and may rely on secondary sources.
1 hour of lectures and 1 hour and 30 minutes of workshops in the MT. 1 hour of workshops and 1 hour and 30 minutes of workshops in the LT. 1 hour of workshops in the ST.
There will be a 60 minute lecture in the MT about the entire Dissertation process. In the MT, LT and ST, there will be a bespoke 90-minute workshop offered together with LSE Life. In addition, in the LT the cohort will be split into 4 groups to take part in a 60-minute workshop where students will comment on each other’s proposals. The MSc IR programme director will offer a 30 minute question and answer session in ST, at the same time as the LSE Life workshop. Over the summer period the Department will also offer ‘drop in’ sessions for students with individual queries.
Dissertation (100%, 10000 words) in August.
