1966 Harry G. Johnson (1923-77) was on staff as a Professor of Economics from 1966 to 1974. His involvement with the School goes back to 1954 when he was first employed to lecture on the 'Theory of International Economics'. Johnson's contribution to economics was prolific, his work enhancing the development of effective protection and general equilibrium theory, tariffs, and the monetary approach to balance-of-payment problems. His work aided macroeconomists in the engendering of a new synthesis of Keynesian thinking with neo-classical methods and patterns of microeconomics. Published works include Economic Policies Toward Less Developed Countries (1967), Essays in Monetary Economics (1967), Aspects of the Theory of Tariffs (1971), and On Economics and Society (1975).
