1975 Partha Sarathi Dasgupta (1942-) taught at LSE from 1975-84, first as a Reader and from 1978 as a Professor of Economics. Like Amartya Sen, Dasgupta restored an ethical element to economics through his espousal of social well-being. His main contribution to economics was in the realm of economic theory where his research dealt with issues including trade, development planning, welfare and justice, technological change, the economics of malnutrition, taxation, optimal growth theory, and game theory. His published works include Economic Theory and Exhaustible Resources (with G.M.Heal)(1979) and The Control of Resources (1982), The Existence of Equilibrium in Discontinuous Economic Games (with E.S.Maskin) (1986), and The Economics of the Environment (1996). In 1994 he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the School. Timeline
