Research summary > [Click to expand]

I have two main areas of interest. The first is in growth and industrial policy in the UK and European Union, where I apply 'Varieties of Capitalism' analysis to current challenges in industrial restructuring. I have published several analyses of UK and German industrial strategies that draw on this field.

The second is in the related question of the role of interest groups - especially business and trade unions - in influencing how these policies are formed. I have carried out research into the role of moderate UK trade unions in influencing Tony Blair's 'New Labour' government.

As well as these areas I also maintain an interest in the UK's public finances, having formerly worked as a senior economics analyst for BBC News where I advised on the BBC's coverage of the Budget, pre-Budget Report/Autumn Statement and Spending Reviews.
