Research summary > [Click to expand]

Most of my current work has a strong policy focus, and is at the intersection of ‘health economics’ and ‘political economy’, but draws heavily on insights from ‘social and behavioral economics’. On the whole, it revolves around three main themes. The first one considers health and long-term care financing and, especially, the interaction of public and private sectors, the role of self-insurance (via housing) and its effect on health inequality. The second broadly examines aspects of the design and foundation of social (e.g., identity, etc) and institutional (e.g., political etc) incentives for social (e.g., social ties) and health-related behaviors (e.g., sleep, obesity, attitudes to health inequality). Finally, I am interested in the origins of health disadvantage and its effects on economic behavior (e.g., effects on employment, productivity, savings, etc).
