Since 2007 my work has become increasingly occupied with an unusual and challenging research question: What can philosophy contribute to an understanding of Europe today?

Philosophy has always had a distinctive take on Europe. Heidegger voiced the view with characteristic directness: “The statement that philosophy is in its nature Greek says nothing more than that Europe is, in the innermost core of its history, originally philosophical.”

Taking up anew the injunction to conceive Europe as itself a philosophical phenomenon my work attempts to show how a distinctively philosophical engagement with Europe can contribute once more to Europe’s political project.
