Dr Henz joined the Sociology Department in 2001. Prior to doing so, she held research fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Education in Berlin, Germany, at Stockholm University (Demography Unit and Swedish Institute for Social Research), Sweden, and at King's College, London. Her studies have been concerned with longitudinal aspects of compulsory and post-compulsory educational participation, poverty, women's labour market participation and family dynamics using a number of large-scale surveys. Currently she is participating in an internationally comparative project to study fertility decisions in stepfamilies using the European Fertility and Family Surveys. Her research interests include the role of the family in social stratification, sociology of the life course, and quantitative methods.
