Dr Blanden's main research interest concerns how family background influences people's later outcomes. This has included a number of areas, including the impact of parental income on children's educational attainment and the comparison of intergenerational income persistence across countries and over time. She has also undertaken research for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation on the persistence of poverty from childhood and through to middle age.
