Gemma's research interests include health financing, social health protection, migrant health and health inequalities. She is currently working on the FP7 Health Inc project, researching socially inclusive health care financing in Ghana, Senegal and India. In addition, Gemma is part of a project team researching infectious disease burden in migrant populations in Europe.

Prior to joining LSE, Gemma worked as an Economist in the Rwandan Ministry of Health and for an HIV/AIDS NGO in India. She holds an MSc in International Development from the Universiteit van Amsterdam and a BA in Economics from the University of Sheffield.
