Felicia Yap's research centres on the Japanese occupation of East and Southeast Asia during the Second World War. The focus of her work is primarily on POW and civilian internment camps of the Japanese, and the wartime experiences of captive and neutral Europeans in occupied Hong Kong, Malaya, Singapore and Borneo. Her other research interests include memories of war and captivity, as well as the evolution of Eurasian, Jewish and Portuguese communities in colonial British Asia. She has also started a new research project on collaboration, resistance and espionage in wartime Macao, which was permitted by the Japanese to retain its formal neutrality during this turbulent period.
