Research summary > [Click to expand]

I work on ageing and sexual and reproductive health, and the way in which they shape and are shaped by social institutions and processes.

My current research looks at older adults’ experiences of HIV/AIDS and experiences of growing old, particularly in southern and eastern Africa. It focuses on the challenges of HIV/AIDS and ageing to (role and social) identity and the consequences of that for self-concept and behaviour. I have a special interest in the contribution of multidisciplinary qualitative research to demographic understanding.
