Dr Lin has a long term interest in the historical sociology of comparative developments, especially between China/Asia and Europe, between China and other developing countries, and among the states of historical communism and market transition. Another focus of her research is in political economy concerning in particular the (in)compatibility between socialism and market, property relations, and the future of work. She has also written in critical social theory pertaining to Marxism, liberalism, feminism, democracy, and methodological issues of political science.
