Dr Arno Hold is a Fellow at the Centre of International Studies and the LSE International Trade Policy Unit. From 2013-2015, he led a postdoctoral research project in the framework of the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Trade Regulation that focussed on the role of innovation and competition in trade governance. During a visiting scholarship at the Hong Kong University’s School of Economics and Finance, he co-founded the WTI/CUHK Hong Kong Summer Programme on International Intellectual Property and served for three years as its Programme Director. Dr Hold received his Ph.D. in International Affairs and Political Economics from the University of St. Gallen. He is a graduate of the World Trade Institute’s MILE programme (Master of International Law and Economics) and holds a master degree in Political Science from the Universities of Bern, Zurich and Bologna. He has lectured at the South-Western University of Finance & Economics in Chengdu, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Transatlantic IP Summer Academy of Bocconi University, and the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences in Zurich. Dr Hold regularly works as an international consultant and has obtained several expert mandates to provide economic policy advice, capacity building programmes and technical assistance projects in various African, Asian and European countries. His professional career includes positions as a Coordinator for International Cooperation and Project Director at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, as a Project Officer at a think tank in Geneva and as a Business Development Consultant in Singapore. Furthermore, Dr Hold was a Research Assistant at the Institute for International Law of the University of Zurich and completed internships at the UN Headquarters in New York and at the Strategic Leadership Training Unit of the Swiss Federal Chancellery.
