Main research interests in the following areas: economic geography of innovation and technological change; regional systems of innovation; multinational corporations and regions; theory and policy of industrial clusters; internationalisation and local economic development.

Ongoing research focuses on: geography of multinational corporations; interdependence between multinationals, technology and regional development; spatial profile of university-industry linkages; skills, migration and geography; relationship between new technologies and labour productivity across space.

Recent and current research projects, as Principal Investigator, include the following EU FP7 projects: "Intangible Assets and Regional Economic Growth" (IAREG), completed in July 2010; "Policy Incentives for the Creation of Knowledge: Methods and Evidence" (PICK-ME), currently in progress; "Sharing Knowledge Assets: Interregionally Cohesive Neighbourhoods (SEARCH), currently in progress.
