Dr Putzel works on politics and development, with a focus on states under stress, post-war state reconstruction, and the politics of the HIV/AIDS crisis. He has research experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, has worked on the political economy of agrarian reform and is an expert on the government, history and economy of the Philippines.
