The Effects of Saudi-Iranian Rivalry on the Regional Security Complex

LSE Kuwait Programme public lecture

Date: Tuesday 29 November 2016
Time: 4.30-6pm
Venue: NAB1.15, New Academic Building
Speaker: Dr Matteo Legrenzi
Chair:  Dr Courtney Freer

Rapid regional changes bring to the attention of International Relations scholars the old debate about the low responsiveness of the Middle East to regionalism and regionalization in both the economic and political fields as well as the absence of a functional Middle East security complex. The overall polarization in regional politics, the rivalries amongst global actors and the continuous confrontation by proxy between Iran and Saudi Arabia open up new scenarios which do not bode well for the future.

Matteo Legrenzi is Associate Professor of International Relations at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

Courtney Freer (@courtneyfreer) is a Research Officer at the LSE Kuwait Programme.

The Kuwait Programme (@LSEKuwait) on Development, Governance and Globalisation in the Gulf States is a ten year multidisciplinary global research programme.
