Universities consider themselves liberal spaces of critical thinking. They are however, sites of power. The knowledge produced and reproduced in universities is textured by inequality because "knowledge" itself is not necessarily unbiased and unaffected by the purveyor. It can be highly racialized, gendered and infused with assumptions of class. Current research demonstrate that race and racism are highly apparent in the space of the university. It is manifest through a range of contact from personalised micro aggression to structural and institutional racism. In recent months the university has been a contested site in Southern Africa, the United States and the UK. There have been many flash points.

This exhibition is from photographs taken by black and ethnic minority postgraduate students from London School of Economics and Political Science of their experiences of higher education in the UK. There will also be a keynote talk by Dr Suki Ali, Associate Professor, LSE and a welcome by Professor Julia Black, Interim Director and Pro Director for Research, LSE.
