In Search of Smart, Sustained and Inclusive Growth

Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science public conference

Date: Monday 4 April 2016
Time: 8.30am-1.15pm
Venue: Hong Kong Theatre, Clement House

Sustained growth has been elusive globally since the Global Financial Crisis, and economies have become increasingly reliant on credit. Growth in the US or singular countries such as the UK has not created a general growth impetus either to the Eurozone, Japan or emerging countries, which are now at the end of a credit cycle. The conference will consider perspectives from Japan, China and globally, and discusses how to achieve smart, sustained and inclusive growth at a time of technological change and numerous other challenges.

Speakers include:

Vince Cable (@vincecable) was MP for Twickenham from 1997-2015. He was the Liberal Democrat's chief economic spokesperson from 2003-2010, having previously served as Chief Economist for Shell from 1995-1997. He was UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (2010 to 2015).

Valdis Dombrovskis (@VDombrovskis), Vice President for Economic and Social Affairs and Chairman of the Eurozone Group, European Commission.

Professor Kiyohiko Nishimura, Head of the Economics Department at Tokyo University and former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan.

The full conference programme can be found at In Search of Smart, Sustained and Inclusive Growth.

This event is free and open to all with no ticket or pre-registration required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. For any queries email l.o'keefe@lse.ac.uk.
